The Background

In 2001 Thanet was chosen to pilot an exciting and innovative project across 6 Primary Schools in Ramsgate and Margate, funded by the Invest to Save Government Initiative. Due to the success of the project, parts of the programme have now been mainstreamed and are now jointly funded by Health, Education and Social Services. In 2005 the programme expanded with support and funding from the Behaviour Improvement Programme (BIP), managed by Thanet Excellence Cluster, to incorporate the Behaviour Education Support Team (BEST). The receipt of BIP funding has so far enabled PIP+ to develop and provide an enhanced service and attract further funding for new services. Some examples of this are:

• Receipt of Kent Drug Action Team and Performance Reward Grant Monies from Thanet Children’s Consortium to fund the Sunlight Group Worker and then pilot the Sunlight Parent Worker post.
• Play Therapy – the ability to train existing staff to provide this valuable service-increasing our capacity to provide flexible therapeutic services
