Learning Support Unit Strand |

Each secondary school has a Learning Support Unit staffed by teachers and learning mentors or teaching assistants.
Schools use this provision in ways which best meet the needs of their pupils, but all aim to raise achievement and improve self-esteem.
The work of LSU's includes:
- Identifying and removing barriers to learning
- Setting targets, monitoring progress and providing guidance
- Building confidence and self-esteem
- Increasing motivation and raising asperations
- Developing social, emotional and behaviour skills
- Developing learning and study skills
- Facilitating reintegration into mainstream classes
- Lunchtime and extra-curricular activities
- Liaising with families, other staff and outside agencies
