Each Excellence Cluster school has appointed one or more Learning Mentors to support individuals or groups of pupils to improve their attendance, behaviour, learning or social skills.
The work of learning mentors includes:
- Identifying and removing barriers to learning
- Setting targets, monitoring progress and providing guidance
- Building confidence and self-esteem
- Increasing motivation and raising asperations
- Developing social, emotional and behaviour skills
- Developing learning and study skills
- Facilitating reintegration into mainstream classes
- Lunchtime and extra-curricular activities
- Liasing with families, other staff and outside agencies
